**The short answer.** ppi Media plans pages and automates ad and output workflows for publishers. If you want to replace that job, look at alfa ProductPlanner or EAE. If you want to know what each edition costs, track every copy and invoice the print customer, you need a plant-level Print MIS/ERP such as Print365, which runs next to page planning.

## What ppi Media does, and where its job ends

ppi Media, based in Hamburg, builds production automation for newspaper publishers. Its own product page lists these components, linked by one central data hub ([ppi Media](https://ppimedia.de/en/products/for-production-automation/)):

- **PlanPag:** page planning. Defines main and pre runs, volumes and book structures, and places ROP ads.
- **AdPag:** automated ad pagination from booking data.
- **AdMan and AdX:** ad production control and cross media ad scheduling.
- **OM:** output management, producing printing forms from planning data.
- **biloog:** insert management.

That is the publisher's side of the night: what goes on which page, and getting plates out on time. Aachener Zeitung, for example, runs PlanPag and AdPag connected to its ad system and press control ([ppi Media](https://ppimedia.de/en/titles-by-zeitungsverlag-aachen-are-produced-with-ppi-media-solutions/)).

The printer's side starts where the plates leave. ppi Media's pages describe no job costing, no invoicing of print customers and no paper reel inventory. So the first question to answer is which of the two jobs you want to solve.
