MWM wishes a Happy Midsummer

During spring the Covid-19 pandemic has unexpectedly focused on the importance of news and publishing. Being updated has become crucial for millions of people around the globe and hopefully this awakened interest in news will outstay the pandemic.

Business for MWM has continued unabated during this period of long-lasting strain despite meetings, follow-ups and fairs being brought forward indefinitely. Here follows a summary of what MWM has been up to lately.

During the MWM Event of Key Figures that took place in January in Trondheim, Norway, the participants that have made noteworthy changes were rewarded. V-Tab Södertälje won the category ‘’Best improvement 2019’’.

The printing plant V-Tab Södertälje, part of the major Swedish printing corporate group V-Tab, prints the daily newspapers Aftonbladet and Svenska Dagbladet as well as magazines, local newspapers and other printed materials.

V-Tab improved its key notes remarkably during 2019 compared to 2018 especially the figures of make ready waste and overprinting were reduced.

What is the secret behind the improvement?

Leif Ahlgren, Site Manager at V-Tab Södertälje, says:
“Our two work teams are very knowledgeable and experienced. They operate with maximum efficiency despite stress and their ability of thriftiness makes me proud.”

There are also other underlying factors easing the daily work today at V-Tab. As smaller circulations of newspapers are being printed the time lapse is greater between different productions. Work at V-Tab Södertälje is simplified particularly by technical solutions as the MWM Copytrack module, which is cloud-based since 2018.

“The daily operation, from preparing the reels to the printing press and the mailroom, is followed live in real time, no matter my physical location,” Ahlgren says. “Time of delivery reports as well as stop and overprinting reports provide control, but most important is that we now receive accurate figures. Figures you can’t rely on are worthless, so having access to exact figures gives us a significant economical yield.”

WAN-IFRA webinar displays MWM and ZGO success

The German newspaper group ZGO has successfully undergone a digital transformation from zero to a data driven decision making platform through cooperation with MWM. In May this process and achievement reached the German speaking media companies through a webinar arranged by WAN-IFRA, the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers.

Over 50 participants, among others representatives from SPIEGEL- Verlag, Madsack Medien gruppe and Frankfurt Allgemeiner Zeitung, took part in the webinar titled “Rapid data driven transformation at a German local newspaper”.

Jörgen Karlsson, Business Development Manager at MWM, introduced the Media 365 platform by informing how media companies can be up and running digitally within six months thanks to MWM´s long experience and achievements on the Scandinavian market. He also pointed out the strength of MWM – customized technology in combination with experience and counselling – resulting in a time and money saving concept.

The German newspaper group ZGO, Zeitungsgruppe Ostfriesland, was represented by project manager Philip Thiemann. He featured the remarkable results of the digital transition that started with the implementation of the Media 365 platform. At the end of 2019 three of the ZGO-newspapers had in total 464 online subscribers. In April 2020 the number was 1 414 – an increase of 204,7 percent in only four months.

April 2021 – new date for Drupa

MWM’s plan was to meet up at Drupa in Düsseldorf, Germany this month. The leading trade fair for printing technologies that was scheduled for June 2020 has inevitably been postponed. The industry event that usually takes place only every four years is now set for April 20 – 30, 2021, at Messe Düsseldorf.

MWM’s CEO Tony Svensson is ready for the industry’s key event in 2021.
“As Drupa has such a great international appeal it’s wise that the event can be held without compromises and restrictions,” Svensson says. “Drupa gives an opportunity to stay tuned with the trends and patterns of the future as well as our products that are adjusted to the latest developments.”
